Easter: Cleric Urges Faith, Unity, Hope Amid Hardship in Taraba

Christians in Taraba State have been urged to remain steadfast in their faith, deepen unity, and sustain hope despite prevailing socio-economic challenges as they celebrate Easter.

The call was made by Sunday Patrick Muke, Special Adviser to Governor Agbu Kefas on Christian Religious Matters, during an Easter Sunday homily at Saint Robert Bellarmine Chaplaincy in Jimlari, Lau Local Government Area of the state, as well as in a goodwill message to mark the occasion.

Muke described Easter as the cornerstone of the Christian faith, anchored on the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which he said signifies salvation, victory over death, and renewed hope for humanity. He stressed that unwavering commitment to God remains the hallmark of true Christianity, assuring believers that those who remain faithful would not be put to shame.

Drawing from the Gospel of John 20:1–9, he noted that the empty tomb represents the fulfillment of Christ’s promise of resurrection rather than a symbol of loss. He urged Christians to emulate the example of Mary Magdalene and the disciples by believing in the risen Christ and rising above fear, doubt, and uncertainty.

While acknowledging the economic difficulties facing many citizens, Muke expressed optimism that conditions would improve, adding that perseverance in faith would yield divine rewards. He commended Christians for their sacrifices and spiritual discipline during the Lenten season.

He also called on residents of the state to embrace unity and work collectively towards peace, love, and sustainable development, stressing that no situation is beyond God’s transforming power.

The Easter Mass featured special prayers for leaders, the Church, and the nation, seeking divine guidance and wisdom in governance.

Muke further wished Christians across the state a joyful and blessed Easter celebration, reiterating the message of the season: “Christ is Risen! Alleluia!”
