The Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ali Isa JC, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing internal crisis and alleged undemocratic practices within the party.

Ali Isa, who represents Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency of Gombe State, disclosed this in a resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of PDP, Kindiyo Ward, Balanga Local Government Area, and made available to journalists on Tuesday.

In the letter, the lawmaker said his decision takes immediate effect, noting that the party had been hijacked by forces acting contrary to its founding principles, resulting in factional leadership.

“Respectfully, I write to tender my resignation from the membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect,” he stated.

He added: “My decision is compelled by the way and manner some undemocratic forces have hijacked the party for reasons that are contrary to the founding principles and philosophy of the party, which has created a factional leadership.”

The federal lawmaker further disclosed that his decision followed extensive consultations with family members, political associate

He expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the PDP for the opportunity to serve under the party’s platform, wishing them well in their future endeavours.

The development comes amid recent political signals, including his visit to Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he commended the governor for creating an enabling environment for constituency projects, although he had at the time declined comments on a possible defection and other stakeholders.

“Consequently, after a series of rigorous consultations with my family, political associates, friends, and relevant stakeholders, I have arrived at the conclusion that the path to my political future, as well as that of the people who gave me their mandate, lies outside the PDP,” he said.

Ali Isa maintained that his constituents deserve a more viable political platform that would better guarantee their interests and future.
